Winter is coming and so are the bills.
The Ofgem cap rose £149 this month taking the ‘average’ annual energy bill to £1,717 and analysts say another rise is likely in January. The government clings to its controversial policy of stopping winter fuel payments for 10 million pensioners. Surveys show almost half the population will ration its energy use.
But there are things you can do to make a serious dent in your energy bill – without going cold or spending a fortune on insulation. Whatever fuel you heat with – gas, electricity, even wood – new technologies and strategies can cut costs sharply. Some require a smallish upfront investment but not all. The best I’ve found could save hundreds of pounds a year.
